The New Mexico Society of Hazardous Materials Managers (NMSHMM) was formed in 1998 as the marriage of two parent organizations, the former New Mexico Hazardous Waste Management Society (NMHWMS) and the Roadrunner Chapter of the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP - formerly the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers).

News & Upcoming Events:

Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP) 2018 Conference,
August 26-29, 2018
Grand Sierra Resort, Reno, Nevada

The AHMP Conference is a wonderful event where members of the various local chapters of the AHMP (of which NMSHMM is one), as well as hazardous materials professionals and students will meet in Reno, NV. The AHMP shares and supports NMSHMM's goals of providing a resource to hazardous materials professionals and students for networking, continuing education, and promoting the Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification. At the conference, attendees interact with professionals and students from around the country (and from other parts of the world!), and have access to seminars detailing some of the biggest challenges in our fields today. Please click here for more information and to register if you wish to attend.

This year several Board Members will be presenting technical talks: Dave Gratson (NMSHMM Director-at-Large), Kelsey Forde (AHMP Regional Liaison - 9 & 10) , and Timothy Stirrup (NMSHMM President). Other notable former NMSHMM Board Members with National Roles are: Richie Spangler (IHMM Board of Directors) and Eric Johnson (incoming AHMP President).

New this year, the NMSHMM course will take place over 4-days to allow students more time with the instructors, modules, and to work through practice problems. This 4-day course is offered during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, and is invaluable for the environmental professional looking to gain a comprehensive understanding of the disciplines involved with Hazardous Materials management and other Environmental fields. The course is designed as a preparatory course for the CHMM certification. A 1-day refresher option is available, which provides the annual CHMM point requirements. Back by popular demand is the option to attend via remote webinar; enjoy the benefit of the interactive course from the comfort of your home or office. We are also looking into details for scheduling a proctored exam with the testing agency on Friday, October 12, 2018 following the completion of the EHMM Course.
